Jason grew up playing the drums and was a drummer in a band before beginning to play the guitar. While in college Jason mastered the guitar and decided that if he knew how to play the guitar, that he need to start singing as well.
Interestingly enough, Jason Castro claims he only sang in public 5 times before auditioning for season 7 of American Idol.
